I just don't know
This came to my attention this morning while I was doing my daily news check.
I graduated from that school. I have friends who work there. I probably know some of the kids who go there.
I'm in shock. I don't really know what to think.
Some folks I know from there are saying it's getting blown out of proportion. I trust their judgement, so I'm sure that's the case. But still...
I guess if I had any innocence left, it's pretty much gone now.
How can I be so knocked for a loop by something that didn't even happen?

welcome to my world. the media is right outside my window as i type this, actually. did you see the headline of the national post this morning? this has been my week.
i need a beer. perhaps intravenously.
This is why I used to routinely picket in front of my school with a sign that said "Shoot wads - not me!"

I work with another guy who graduated there 2 years ahead of us... I made the comment today that when we were there, something like this never would have happened.
Tell me I'm wrong.
The world has changed a lot in the last several years. Not necessarily for the better.
(Sorry for the deletion, I had to edit.)
in some ways it's very different. in others, it's exactly the same.
but this is not a story of a school: not our school or any other school. this is a story about some kids who had an idea, freaked out their friends, and their friends told someone who they thought would help. they were right to do so. the story should end there.
but the media won't let it. which has been the most frustrating but - to live in the middle of the media storm. but their presence means that the kids don't believe us when we tell them there's nothing - they are choosing to believe the rumours, they believe the presence of tv cameras validates those rumours.
hopefully this will all blow over by tomorrow and the vultures will have moved on to the next carrion and will leave our kids alone so they can stop freaking out.
i guess it's in minnesota. now THAT's scary stuff. at least we didn't have any weapons here, or kids driving through the school in a pickup truck.
